Professor Omar Rahman
Professor Rahman is a member of faculty at the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB). He is also a returnee professional migrant from America where he studied and worked at Harvard University.

Tommy Miah: Bringing something back
Tommy Miah is a highly acclaimed chief who studied in the UK and has recently returned to set up Heritage Restaurant. He couldn’t be with us on the day, but provided us with an overview of his experience of migration and return.
 

Tareque Masud and multicultural transformations
Tareque Masud is an independent filmmaker. He completed his formal education in Bangladesh in the Department of History at Dhaka University and went on to make a documentary film on the artist S M Sultan. On a trip to the US to meet his in-laws he ended up staying for five years before returning to Bangladesh and pursing his film career.

Mushtaque Habib
Mr. M. Mushtaque Habib is an engineer who has recently been commissioned by North South University to construct their new campus. He is also a return migrant form America.

Sayeed Siddiqui’s Cat’s Eye: Manufacturing and retail.
Sayeed Siddiqui and his wife set up and own Cat’s Eye a leading Bangladeshi brand of men’s wear. They are both return migrants from Canada where they worked in retail.

Rizwan bin Farouq: Developing a transnational catering industry
Rizwan Bin Farouq is the Managing Director of the Tommy Miah’s Institute of Hospitality and Management. He went abroad to access better employment opportunities. In Hong Kong he built up his career in the banking sector, but then decided to come back and set up in different business sectors in Bangladesh. He was a key figure in setting up the Chittagong Stock Exchange and he also popularised IT education through APTECH, a leading IT training institute. Along with the internationally renowned chef Tommy Miah he has recently established a restaurant called Heritage.

Habib Wahid: Multi-cultural, transnational music production
Habib Wahid is a successful musician whose album has sold approximately 1.5 million copies. He is also a return migrant from England where he studied at the London School of Audio Engineering.

Bibi Production and Bangladeshi textiles
Bibi Russel is an internationally renowned model and fashion designer. She left Bangladesh for Europe in 1972 after completing a BSc from the Home Economics College, Dhaka. She was the first Bangladeshi woman to gain admission to the London School of Design, where she studied a four year diploma course in fashion design. In 1975 she modelled her own graduation show and was immediately offered modelling assignments with international fashion houses.

Bazlur Rahman
Bazlur Rahman is the owner of the two restaurants Little Italy and Bella Italia. He is also a repeat return migrant who spent many years in the Middle East working in construction, before going to Italy where he learnt the art of Italian cooking which he brought back to Bangladesh to establish his own restaurant. He could not attend the Workshop, but provided us with a background of his experiences.
